Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary
A Small Room With Trouble on My Mind is a novella published by West End Press which uses a variety of narrative forms to detail the lives of a working-class Appalachian couple for whom Biuegrass and traditional mountain music is a touchstone, a point of stability and harmony in their otherwise disrupted lives. The story follows their passage from the hills of eastern Kentucky to the streets of Cincinnati. Their music is woven into the story as counterpoint and commentary. I will read passages from the novella and perform song selections that are referenced in the text. I will accompany myself on guitar.

Michael Henson is a writer and musician living in Cincinnati. His book, The Way the World Is: the Maggie Boylan Stories, was recently was awarded the Brighthorse Prize in Short Fiction.
