This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of a B.A. in Music Education. Mr. Bowe is a student in the percussion studio of Professor J. Steven Hall.

Michael Cochran graduated from Marshall University in December 2012 with a B.A. in Music Education and is currently the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, manager, songwriter and producer of contemporary Christian band Render the Hearts. He has performed with numerous groups at Marshall, including the MU Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Thunder, University Chorus, African Drum & Dance, the praise band at MU Revolution (which he co-led for two years), Pep Band, and a jazz combo. He studied with Professor Hall. He has also sang and played guitar/bass with contemporary Christian artists Redeemed, gospel band Just Us, and toured the nation with the Jason Lovins Band. With his bands he has shared the stage with Ravenna, Jason Lovins, Taylor Shea, and top-selling Christian artist Kari Jobe. He played with award-winning jazz, concert band, and vocal groups during his time at Shady Spring High School, made the WV All-State Band and Orchestra, and studied with former Cavaliers percussion instructor Steve Bell. He currently teaches percussion at Winfield High School, has also taught at Shady Spring and Sheldon-Clark high schools, and has adjudicated middle school all-county band auditions in Lawrence County, OH. Mike, along with Justin and Joe, is co-founder of the Percussion Instructor’s Forum, and also gives private lessons in percussion.

Joe Crowe is currently a junior music education major, and has studied with Jamie Martin, Chris Scarberry, John Espy, and Professor Hall. Aside from being the drummer in contemporary Christian band Render the Hearts, Joe is a member of Highlawn Baptist Church where he plays music and is an intern under worship pastor Phil Smith. He has performed with the MU Symphony Orchestra, Marching Thunder, Pep Band, MU Revolution Praise Band, and is currently performing with the MU Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, and University Chorus. Joe has also played with Redeemed, Ravenna, and has toured the nation with the Drew Dunbar Band. He has shared the stage with Jason Lovins, Shea, and Our Heart's Hero, and is an accomplished songwriter. He teaches percussion at Chesapeake High School, and has also taught alongside Greg Lucas at Cabell Midland High School. Along with Justin and Mike, Joe is co-founder of the Percussion Instructor's Forum, and he also gives private lessons in percussion. Joe is also a music producer, and owns/operates his own recording business, Homegrown Studios.

Evan Grover is a sophomore music performance major from Sistersville, WV, a graduate of Tyler Consolidated High School, and has studied percussion with Professor Hall and Dr. Ben Miller. He plays with the MU Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and Contemporary Music Ensemble and has played with the MU Symphonic Band and Marching Thunder in the past. Mr. Grover plans to become a professor of percussion.

Ross Patrick is a senior music education major from Pitman, New Jersey. He has studied with Professor Hall and Dr. Ben Miller. He currently plays in the MU Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, Fife & Drum Corps., and has played in the MU Jazz Band (and numerous combos), University Chorus, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, Marching Thunder, and Pep Band.

Shane Stevens is a sophomore music education major from Huntington, WV. He has studied with Professor Hall. At Marshall he has performed with the MU Symphonic Band, Jazz Combo, Rock Band, Marching Thunder, and currently is a member of the MU Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, and Pep Band. Shane is the keyboard player for contemporary Christian band Render the Hearts. Shane aspires to go to seminary and become a pastor after he receives his undergraduate degree from Marshall, and is currently a member of First Baptist Church of Kenova in Kenova, WV.

Amanda Young, a senior music education major, is from Buffalo, WV. In addition to pursuing her degree, she has also served as a Resident Advisor in the Freshman Residence Halls at Marshall for three years. She performs in the Percussion Ensemble, and with Fife & Drum Corps. She has recently given her senior percussion recital, and in the past has performed with the MU Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band (where she was Principal for two years) University Chorus, Symphony Orchestra, and. Marching Thunder. She has studied with Professor Hall. She currently teaches percussion at Buffalo High School, and has also taught percussion at Spring Valley High School.

Justin Bowe is a senior music education major from Cross Lanes, WV. A graduate of Nitro High School, he studied percussion with Greg Lucas, Rich Brooks, and at MU has studied with Professor Hall. He currently performs with the MU Wind Symphony, Percussion Ensemble, and is currently the director of the MU Revolution Praise Band. Past ensembles include the MU Symphonic Band, Marching Thunder, Pep Band, University Chorus, a jazz combo, and he has made guest performances with the University Chorus and Chamber Choir playing percussion. An amateur composer and arranger, he has premiered several works with members of the MU Percussion Ensemble. He occasionally substitutes for members of Christian band Render the Hearts and has also played with Mike's former band Redeemed. He has regularly played in worship bands at Westmoreland, Highlawn, and Ceredo Baptist Churches, and is currently pursuing membership at Gateway Christian Church in St. Albans, WV where he plays drums and bass guitar. He has taught/arranged percussion at Nitro and Spring Valley High Schools, currently assists Michael Cochran at Winfield High School, and is the head percussion instructor/arranger at Logan High School in Logan, WV. In 2012 he, Mike, and Joe founded the Percussion Instructor's Forum, a collective of idea-sharing including most non-collegiate percussion teachers from West Virginia and southern Ohio. Its mission is to spread music education, particularly in terms of percussion, evenly throughout the region. He has also adjudicated middle school all-county percussion auditions in Lawrence County, OH, and gives private lessons in percussion.
