"Sermon: Text and Performance"
October 19-22, 2017
Proposal deadline extended to August 1!
"If church language is useful
in describing how theater works,
perhaps theatrical language could be useful
in describing how church works."
This statement, from the introduction to Shannon Craigo-Snell's The Empty Church: Theater, Theology, and Bodily Hope (Oxford, 2014) could be something of a "motto" for the 2017 conference theme, which we're calling "Sermon: Text and Performance."
The conference is meant to bring scholars and practitioners together in one event. We therefore welcome proposals for both academic papers and roundtables and workshops for members of the clergy. Diversity of viewpoints is key, so all faiths and disciplinary perspectives are welcome.
