In this poster presentation, visual and written information will be provided about the history of Science for the People movement and its current day revival. The movement’s foundational principles and its core activities from 1969 to 1989 will be described and its relevance to current concerns in Appalachia highlighted. Viewers will learn about the scholarly, activist and creative work of SftP members in Appalachia and beyond. Presenters of the poster will be able to speak about past and current work, which includes: water testing, soil testing, citizen science, and community education. Members of SftP can also potentially provide connection points to specific scientific experts relevant to community and local environmental and health concerns. Viewers can learn of websites, activist scholar and scientist groups, and journal publications to further their knowledge of the above topics.
