Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary

"Captina Creek: A Gem of Appalachian Ohio" is a 30 minute video, produced by the James Agee Film Project, Directed by Ross Spears, enabled by the Captina Creek Conservancy. The film presents a portrait of the "most pristine stream in Ohio," the only breeding place of the endangered Eastern Hellbender salamander. Theatening this creek is the fossil fuel industry, which is building frack welsl thoughout the watershed of the creek. The film asks the question: what can be done to project the place and the creek. Ross Spears will present and discuss.

At-A-Glance Bio- Presenter #1

Ross Spears is a native and resident of Johnson City, Tennessee. He is the founder and Director of the James Agee Film Project. He has been making documentary films (now videos) since 1974. He is most well-known for AGEE (Academy Award nomination in 1980), APPALACHIA: A History of Mountains and People- a 4 part series, (Best Video of the Year 2010, American Library Association, PBS primetime), TO RENDER A LIFE (Blue Ribbon, American Film Festival), as well as TELL ABOUT THE SOUTH and THE TRUTH ABOUT TREES.
