Additional information can be found in Alfred Nevin, Encyclopaedia of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America (Philadelphia: Presbyterian Publishing Co, 1884) and John McClintock and James Strong, Cyclopaedia of Biblical, Theological, and Ecclesiastical Literature, Volume 12 (New York: Harper & Brothers, 1894). His last name is spelled “Bovelle” in the former source and “Bouelle” in the latter, but the information is the same.

The User Guide for the Library of Appalachian Preaching is a Google Sheet that can be searched, sorted, and downloaded for offline use.
This part of the Guide provides information about Bovell's sermons. It includes the title, scripture text, date and place the sermon was preached (if known), and so on. This information is available in the master list of sermons as well.
This sermon, on 1 Thessalonians 1:4, appeared in the January 1837 issue of the Pittsburgh-based Presbyterian Preacher. At the time of its publication, Bovell was working in Missouri, where he had moved around that time. He was thus no longer in Appalachia; the sermon is nonetheless included in the Library to help illustrate the full range of Bovell’s preaching.
