Hubbard, Benjamin Harrison, d. 1853

It appears that little is known about Hubbard’s early life. We do know that he was licensed to preach in 1835, and that his work in the Hatchie circuit of the Methodist church took him to non-Appalachian cities in Tennessee, including Columbia, Jackson, and Trenton. His work within Appalachia took place in Alabama, first in Huntsville and later in Athens, where he was a professor and president of the Tennessee Conference Female College (now Athens State University).

Additional information can be found in an obituary published in the Nashville Christian Advocate.

    Robert H. Ellison

The User Guide for the Library of Appalachian Preaching is a Google Sheet that can be searched, sorted, and downloaded for offline use.

At the moment, Hubbard has only one sermon in the Library; it has a Guide of its own so the records will be complete. It includes the title, sermon text, date and place the sermon was preached, and so on. This information is available in the master list of sermons as well.
