McIlvaine, James Hall, 1846-1921

McIlvaine was born in Utica, New York and educated at Princeton University. He pastored both Presbyterian and Episcopal churches, but is classified as Episcopal in the Library. He worked in New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island before coming to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1900. He was rector of Calvary Episcopal Church there until 1916, and also served St. Stephen’s and St. Peter’s. According to obituaries published in religious periodicals The Churchman and The Living Church, he was killed by a “motor truck” that was allegedly “being driven on the wrong side of the street.”
