The Methodist Episcopal Pulpit was the work of Davis Wasgatt Clark, who would go on to be elected bishop in 1864, and George Peck, a pastor, publisher, and
author of numerous biographies, treatises, and other works. In the words of the Preface, they hoped that the book would be useful to “private individuals and families,” as well as to ministers who could benefit from “models for the improvement of style, for the arrangement and illustration of subjects, [and] for their general discussion” (p. 5).
