This is one of the first maps to show the peninsula for California and the first printed map to name the Sargasso Sea. This map shows the then known areas of the North American continent. Note the large ornate cartouche which covers the Northwest. Also the West Indies are prominently noted, as is the Mississippi River. Many French and English strongholds and settlements are named.
