Representatives from the following institutions have been invited to serve on this panel to discuss their Appalachian Studies abroad programs. Dr. Pat Beavers, Appalachian State University, Boone, NC Study Abroad in Wales After Coal (a documentary): Welsh and Appalachian Mining Communities Dr. Sylvia Bailey Shurbutt, Shepherd University, Shepherdstown WV Celtic Roots: Where Content Courses and Experiential Learning Embrace Dr. Judy Byers, Fairmont State University, Fairmont, WV Roads to Appalachia through Study-Travel Abroad In 2014, Roads to Appalachia through the Mezzogiorno Appalachian Italian Folk Cultural Series Jane MacMorran, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN Appalachian Scottish and Irish Studies The purpose of this panel will be to provide: 1) description of each studies abroad program; 2) discussion of the influences from past studies abroad programs; 3) overview of what students gained from this experience; 4) examination of the social, economic, and environmental challenges in other countries compared to Appalachia; and 5) making connections by exploring similarities and differences of these programs.

Dr. Baugh directed the Appalachian Outreach and Studies program at Sinclair Community college from its inception in December 1998 until she retired in December 2010.
