AppalArts Magazine: The Origin
Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary
AppalArts Magazine is an annual publication whose mission is to showcase the work of independent Appalachian visual artists, performance artists, and creative writers. The magazine is currently in the early stages of development; the first annual publication will be available in Fall 2014. Proceeds from magazine sales will go directly towards improving Arts and Humanities education in Appalachian schools. Throughout the year, AppalArts content can be found online where readers can access articles, past compositions, and contests as well as submit their own work for publication to the website. The annual magazine will be comprised of the best online content from the past year as well as some new material. There will be two presentations given on behalf of AppalArts Magazine. The first of these two presentations will discuss what AppalArts Magazine is, how it came to be, and where it is going. The second of these presentations will discuss the business aspects of AppalArts Magazine including how it is funded, how it will be distributed, and how its profits will be allocated.
