Painting The Beauty Of Appalachia

Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary

In our rapidly changing society, integrative and interdisciplinary approaches have become more successful in teaching and reaching our troubled youths. A hands-on, art oriented presentation will enlighten the particpants with unique strategies applicable in their professional approach in introducing nature, Appalachia, and inspiring a new form of communication. With each stroke of the brush, participants will paint an acrylic sunset on 11"x14" canvas of a landscape, simultaneously gaining insight into reaching youths who are often unreachable and misunderstood. Emphasis will be based on breaking art barriers and using the Appalachian landscape as the subject matter to be painted. In addition, cases will be presented from fact based experiences that will define how young people of today think about nature, their fear of nature, their inexperience in it and most important how we the educators or people who have contact with children should be actively learning, constantly seeking knowledge in educating ourselves.
