Documenting Community Traditions: Railroad History and Cultural Heritage Tourism in Northeast Tennessee
Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary
This poster presentation reports on a project conducted by the Documenting Community Traditions course in the Appalachian Studies graduate program at East Tennessee State University. Students in this course, part of the Appalachian Teaching Project of the Appalachian Regional Commission, conducted an oral history project to document the history of the Clinchfield Railroad in Unicoi County, Tennessee. Students also began working with county leaders in their efforts to utilize railroad history to promote cultural heritage tourism. This project continues a multi-year partnership to promote sustainable development in the region. Students: Chad Bailey, Emily Booker, John Goad, Wayne Lester, Maria Lovelady, Christopher Sharpe, and Cat Washell. Faculty Member: Ron Roach.
