Presentation #1 Title

Enhancing Community Well-Being in Scioto County through Public Art

Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary

The Scioto Art Trail project strives to bring art and enhanced aesthetics to the community by actively encouraging public engagement, while advancing creative thinking by connecting artists with individuals, businesses and communities in stimulating and creative ways to build, sustain and strengthen social connectedness and foster well-being in Scioto County. The project’s working definition of community well-being includes concepts such as; social, environmental, livability, political, civic engagement, equity, economic, cultural and community connectedness. While this project focuses on the cultural and community connectedness aspects, we believe that an increased sense of community pride will have positive impacts on the other aspects of community well-being. The initial project work will be to install large format paintings throughout Scioto County by partnering with area businesses and residents who will sponsor the installations. The second phase of the project will be to install two- and three-dimensional sculptures throughout the county. It is the organization's belief that these installations will create conversation with our neighbors and community members. The art works and installations will be created by local artists with curation and coordination services provided by Scioto Art Trail. The project’s purpose is to improve the aesthetics of the area, foster social connectedness and promote community well-being.
