Presentation #1 Title

Emancipation Day: Gallia County, Ohio

Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary

Over the past five years, East Tennessee PBS has been engaged in the production of short, local documentaries around the narratives of our Black families and institutions in an effort to raise the visibility of resident stories and histories associated with the Mountain South.

Spearheaded by East Tennessean, William Isom II, this project aims to contribute to the current cultural and academic body of work and materials that others have been actively

engaged in in Appalachia over many years .

Isom will screen segments of and discuss this media project’s foray into documenting the 154 year-old Emancipation Proclamation Celebration in Southeastern Ohio’s Gallia County and talk about lessons learned and efforts to make documented stories and materials available to host communities through the public television system.
