Biography

I'm from Glenwood,West Virginia. It's a rural area that's a little over half an hour from Marshall. I lived in Huntington for a while but moved back to Glenwood a few years ago. I've always paid for my school out of pocket and work a lot so I've been working on my bachelors degree for longer than the four years expected to achieve. I have previous work experience in the military, Walmart and I currently work in social services.

Abstract

From previous work experience in retail I've realized that employees in the service industry tend to go through a lot. Mistreatment happens to retail employees mainly through customers and managers with occasional problems happening from other employees. To help shed light on why the lowest level employees tend to be treated the way that they are I conduct interviews with the employees of Walmart, hand out surveys to students at Marshall, and send out surveys to customers, managers, and associates on Qualtrics. An examination of interactions between customers, managers, and low level employees and knowing how these interactions make people feel will be important in educating people of the problems that occur in retail.
