Abstract

In the Playstation 4 Game, God Of War, that was released in 2018, we see a father and son deal with the death of a family member in two separate and different ways. We see the main character, Kratos, take the stereotypical alpha male approach to grief, he lets no one see it. He has a sheltered relationship with his son Atreus, who does not know how to handle the grief acts out.

I can clearly see the trauma that both of these characters are going through, and can relate to the reaction that the son and the father are making at different points in my life. And the game shows beautifully their journey from a distant relationship to a father and son relationship that would have made the mother proud. I intend to examine how the trauma affects each of them in terms of trauma theory, and show how at different points of our life we deal with grief in different ways.
