Educator and cultural leader. Papers consist of lecture notes for British literature classes at Marshall University, as well as some correspondence. Also includes scrapbook of tributes upon his retirement from the university. The bulk of the collection consists of photographic slides of his extensive travel in Europe and the Caribbean.

Back reads: Curtis Baxter (Baxter is 2nd man on gangplank with white straw hat) The "General Wood" was a wooden-hull, sternwheel, packet steamboat built in 1913. Ran Pittsburgh to Cincinnati in the 1920's and early 1930's. Became a wharf boat at E. Liverpool, Ohio in 1934. Sank in the ice 1936 and burned the following summer.

He is wearing his "Cross of Honor" which was awarded by the UDC starting in 1901.
