This collection contains two scrapbooks and several loose photographs documenting Mark Freeman’s personal life and time in the United States Navy in the 1950s. The green scrapbook is composed entirely of unidentified and unlabeled photographs of Freeman’s navy service, mostly of photos taken from his ship. Other notable groups of photographs in the scrapbook include photographs of women and sights in Japan. The brown scrapbook is composed of family photographs (most labelled), photographs of Freeman in Spencer, West Virginia, in the 1960s working with the West Virginia Department of Employment Security, and additional photographs of Freeman’s time in the Navy, including post cards. Loose photograph subject matter includes a Navy ship, a group photo of his high school and Navy graduating class, and photographs that fell out of the scrapbook.
The digitized items here do not represent the entirety of the Mark Freeman Papers,1934-1969. To view what other materials are in this collection but not yet digitized and available online, search the guide to the Mark Freeman Papers,1934-1969.
