View of construction of the Gallipolis lock and dam on Ohio river, ca. 1936; looking upriver (north) with Ohio on left bank, W. Va. at the right. Originally named "Eureka lock and dam" for the nearby village; changed to "Gallipolis," a more familiar place on the Ohio river. Identification confirmed by Jerry Sutphin and Dr. Emery Kemp, 3/4/2004.
