Biographies:
Rusty Shields, " ... a talented tenor with an impressive range, and a smooth lyrical line!" states The New York Times, was born and raised in rural northeastern Arkansas. Having gone through public school and the first half his collegiate career only in band, no one ever knew that Rusty was really a singer. Rusty earned his BM in vocal performance and choral conducting from Arkansas State University in 2009 where he studied with Julia Lansford. Rusty then studied at The Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and studied voice with Andreas Poulimenos and conducting with Michael Schwarzkopf. Rusty has performed throughout the United States and Europe. Rusty has performed roles such as Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, Janik in The Bartered Bride, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte, Belmonte in Die entführung aus dem serail, Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia and many others. Rusty is a very active member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia in which he was initiated in 2003. Rusty actively advocates for the advancement of music in America with a particular interest highlighting the wide variety of great music that is composed in the United States of America. Rusty would like to thank Marshall University School of Music and Theatre, Richard Crosby and the chapters of Phi Mu Alpha in province 25 for their invitation and such a wonderful experience while here in Huntington.
Ryan Pagels holds a Bachelor's and two Master's degrees in music and has performed across the U.S. and Europe with a wide range of musicians. He is an advocate of modern music and is also a composer. Ryan is the resident Music Director at the Ocala Civic Theatre and Assistant Conductor of the Ocala Youth Symphony. Ryan also serves as the Chorus Master for the Ocala Symphony Orchestra.
Richard Crosby (1957) was born in Ashland, Ohio and grew up in Largo, Florida. He received his 8.M., M.M., and D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music. He was initiated into the Eta - Omicron chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia in 1975. He has served as the Governor of Province 25 since 1988, and has served three terms as National President. He has served on the faulty of Eastern Kentucky University since 1986 and was recently named EKU Foundation Professor. Although trained primarily as a pianist, Crosby began composing seriously in 2003. Crosby has released a CD called "An American Portrait" on the PARMA label featuring the music of Charles Griffes, Amy Beach, William Grant Still, Lee Hoiby, and others.
