Guest Artist

Elizabeth Brightbill performs in the flute/cello duo Terra Voce with her husband, Andrew Gabbert. Together they have performed numerous concerts across the country and their current season includes performances at the Kennedy Center and the Riverside Church in New York City. Before moving to Virginia in 2006, Elizabeth held the position of Principal Flute with the Tulsa Philharmonic and Opera Orchestras for ten years. She has also performed with the Richmond Symphony, the Alabama Symphony, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Britt, Wintergreen, OK Mozart Festival orchestras. As a chamber musician, she has performed in numerous concerts and educational presentations with the Tulsa Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet. Her solo performances include appearances with the Tulsa Philharmonic and several performances at National Flute Association conventions, including the "Generation X All-Stars" concert at the 2005 convention in San-Diego and as a semi-finalist in the 1993 Young Artist Competition in Boston. Elizabeth was recently named winner of the 2007 National Flute Association's Dissertation Competition for her research on the flute music of Shulamit Ran. She was the 2nd Runner-up in the 2004 Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition and was awarded a graduate fellowship at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where she earned the Doctor of Music degree. She holds additional degrees from Northern Illinois University and DePauw University, and also studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. She has taught at a number of colleges across the country and currently teaches at Mary Baldwin College.
