The complex consists of the seven story Smith Hall, The Communications Building (1970), which houses WMUL-FM radio, the Birke Art Gallery (1977) and the Evelyn Hollberg Smith Music Hall(1967) (named for wife of President Stewart H. Smith.) Second story bridge to Old Main’s north side walkway and additional elevators completed in 1989.

    MU Chem Professor George Phillips operating the department's DEC PDP-8 digital computer, b&w. George Phillips was MU professor of Chemistry from 1967 to 1973. This PDP-8 is one of the later models, so this image would be 1970-73. Later systems (the PDP-8/I and /L, the PDP-8/E, /F, and /M, and the PDP-8/A) returned to a faster, fully parallel implementation but use much less costly transistor-transistor logic (TTL) MSI logic. Most surviving PDP-8s are from this era.
