This book of "recollections" includes chapters on McElhenney's "ancestry" and "descendents"; an overview of his missionary labors; and a discussion of his work as a preacher. There is also an Appendix with 3 sermons: two by McElhenney himself, and the funeral sermon preached on January 5, 1871, by his friend and fellow minister Matthew Lyle Lacy.
