Description
Carte-de-visites were invented in France in the 1850’s, and made their way to the US a few years before the Civil War. This carte-de-visite (CDV) depicts Thomas Jonathan “Stonewall” Jackson in his pre-Civil War army uniform. The obverse shows that the original image was from Matthew Brady’s Washington gallery. This was a popular image of Jackson printed during the Civil War. Ca. 1864, Item # 2001.0703.102, 10.5 x 6.5 cm.
