Sidney Logan Day ran an architectural firm with his father, Robert Lum Day, in the early 20th century. Together they designed many well-known civic, commercial, and residential buildings throughout Huntington.
Sidney studied architectural rendering through the International Correspondence Schools in Scranton, Pennsylvania from 1901 to 1907 before being accepted to Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his architectural degree from there in 1912. The majority of the images found in this exhibit are early drawings and assignments from his studies at MIT as well as the correspondence school. They demonstrate the effort and accuracy required to become an architect before the advent of computer aided drafting.
This exhibit was digitized and captioned as part of Crystal H. Kendrick’s practicum while pursuing a master’s degree in library science at Texas Woman’s University. The images are selected from the Robert and Sidney Day Collection housed in the Archives and Special Collections Department in Morrow Library.
