These Victor Animatograph Lantern Slides are a specific type of glass slide. They are glass slides known as Victor “Featherweight” Slides. They are a single pane of glass with a shellac on the opposite side that protects the image, and prevents scratching. Featherweight slides are framed giving them the dimensions of 3 ¼ x 4 inch. The Featherweight slides were a multi-purpose slide able to be played in different Stereopticons. Prior to the Featherweight slides, the Victor Corporation produced glass slides were heavy, bulky, and expensive. The Featherweight slides were less expensive and produced a high quality image and are very durable. We were able to identify 98 slides of 190, through a Victor catalog from 1916.
