Philipp Reisner teaches as a lecturer at the Obama Institute for Transnational American Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. In his multidisciplinary research, he focuses on biblical theology, religion and contemporary New English and American literature. His dissertation on the New English theologian Cotton Mather (1663–1728), in which he examines Mather’s theological role in the context of early modern society, appeared in 2012. He completed his habilitation thesis on contemporary Anglo-American poetry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 2021.
