A Prefatory Note states that “The sermons in this book were preached extemporaneously at Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, 1883-84, and stenographically reported.” They were delivered outside Appalachia; they are included in the Library to help illustrate the full range of Thompson’s preaching.
