Voices from Templed Hills: Selected Sermons
G. E. Bartlett
The 14 pastors in this collection were chosen by votes collected over a period of 6 weeks by The Baptist Banner, a weekly newspaper based in Parkersburg, West Virginia (Bartlett edited the paper for a time, and the Banner Company was the publisher of the book).
Two of the pastors were from Parkersburg; other cities represented include Beckley, Charleston, Fairmont, Grafton, Huntington, Logan, Salem, and West Union.
Voices was edited by G. E. Bartlett, a Baptist minister and graduate of
Bucknell University (1906) and Crozer Theological Seminary (1909; now
Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School). As he states in the Foreword, the book was intended to “pass on, by means of the printed page, the heart throbs” of men who “have been preaching Jesus to our rapidly growing people” (p. 15). His hope was that “men reading may understand; that understanding, may believe; and believing, may have a more abundant life” (p. 16).
