Presentation #1 Title
Way Out Yonder: A Story of a 21st Century Family Homestead
Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary
In 2013, Will Parsons gathered his life's savings, took out a substantial loan, and bought 144 acres of strip mine and logging land. In the years following, he moved his family, including his long-time partner Megan Gregory, three adult children, and three young foster children into a camper on this property with no electricity or running water. The family has established housing, gardens, and livestock areas. Their story is one of resistance and hard work.
At-A-Glance Bio- Presenter #1
Matt Parsons comes from a family of hard working Appalachians who stick together. He was raised in West Virginia by a librarian and a bluegrass musician with two simple goals: learn and teach. He now helps manage the family homestead and builds fine, hand-crafted musical instruments.
