Presentation #1 Title

The Crockett House

Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary

This is a film about a historical, yet dilapidated house in Seven Mile Ford, Virginia. The house was built in 1840 by the Preston family and stood through Stoneman's raid of Smyth County during the Civil War. Until 2002, Lucy Crockett, a writer and eccentric character, lived in the house. It is currently empty and was recently vandalized and nearly burned down by locals. My film will be exploring the Crockett House as it stands for Appalachia in the way that it is filled with beauty and treasure, but has been left to fall due to the lack of support from societies outside of the community and the people within the community. I hope this will create a discussion about modern Appalachian culture and how we deal with/treat our history. The film will run 20 minutes or less and will include several characters from Appalachia and some who study the area.
