The Appalachian Transition Fellowship Program presents opportunities for regional transformation for individuals, institutions and communities across sectors. Come hear about the inaugural year of the fellowship and the work the work of the 2nd cohort so far. We will discuss how universities, community organizations and potential fellows can be involved throughout the year. Come ready to discuss economic and social transition and the role that you and your institutions can play! We will dive deep into how our vision and ideas for economic and social transition embeded into the fellowship program and how it can best be of service to your community.

At-A-Glance Bio- Presenter #1

Kierra Sims is a Black Appalachian working to build thriving communities and collective people power throughout the South. She has worked on the Education Team at Highlander since May 2014 focusing on Seeds of Fire intergenerational organizing program and the Appalachian Transition Fellowship.

At-A-Glance Bio- Presenter #2

A Tennessee native, Elizabeth is the founder of KnowHow, an organization which supports leadership development and community engagement among Knoxville’s youth, celebrating art, culture, and media as vital tools to cultivate their agency and amplify their voices. Elizabeth holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee and now co-manages the Appalachian Transition Fellowship.
