Presentation #1 Title
Jumping: Extreme Identities
Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary
Jumping is a novel based in Mexico, but dealing with the shared Mexican and Appalachian histories of mining, mining towns and economic diaspora. I believe that most citizens of Appalachian region have no idea that the Mexicans coming to live in their communities are doing so for the same reasons the parents and grandparents of Appalachians settled in Detroit or Chicago. My purpose in writing this novel was to share the stories of a typical, displaced family from Mexico and to tie that story to its mirror story in Kentucky or West Virginia.
At-A-Glance Bio- Presenter #1
