International cooperation of Ukraine on the Ukrainian Carpathians mountain regions development
Presentation #1 Abstract or Summary
In 1993, representatives of the border regions of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine signed an agreement on the basis of which the Carpathian Euro region was created. Since 1997 the organization was entered by Romania. The purpose of CE is the organization of actions aimed at supporting economic, scientific, environmental, cultural and educational cooperation.
In 2002 there was signed "Understanding on cooperation between the Polish Society of Tourism and Local History Foundation" which envisaged the establishment of tent bases on owners’ rural estates territories and activity initiation to build the first Ukrainian-Polish tourist shelter.
In 2003 "Program of improving the green tourism standards" (with Freedom House / PAUCI - USAID) was supported by the Poland-America-Ukraine Cooperation Initiative (PAUCI), financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and, as a result there was received Grant on improving green tourism standards in 7 villages of Carpathian region. In 2003, representatives of Slovakia, Serbia and Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic and Ukraine governments signed the Carpathian Convention on the environmental protection and sustainable development of the Carpathians.
Since 2005 within the grant program Matra-KNIP, (together with The Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine) there has had in place the project "Caring for Gorgany reserves". The project provided the environmental treatment of 17 objects of Rozhnyativ area natural reserve fund; establishment of 29 nature protecting signs; conducting of environmental campaign "Clean Mountain"; start of environmental campaign "Take your garbage with you!", that aims to attract public attention to the pollution problem in the most visited areas and mountain villages.
In 2006 there was started the cooperation with the Association "Central and Eastern European Greenways". In 2006 Ivano-Frankivsk became the partner of the project "Partnership support of social organizations and administrations of Ukraine in creation of mountain tourism development concept", financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
Since 2008 in the Carpathians there has had in place the project "BikeLand" united into "Center for Social and Business Initiatives" organization (Yaremcha). The project works with the support of partnership organizations and the EU Commission within a Rumania-Ukraine good-neighborhood program. The region has developed more than 28 bike routes of various length and difficulty.
