This presentation will update the audience on the status of the fights against the Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines and consider the role of scholars and academics in political activism for environmental justice and climate justice.

Emily Satterwhite is an Associate Professor of Appalachian studies at Virginia Tech. She is an outspoken critic of the Mountain Valley Pipeline and was recently sentenced to 200 hours of Community Service for chaining herself to a piece of heavy equipment at an active pipeline excavation site.
