Abstract
In this presentation we are going to take an in depth look at Robert C. Byrd's life. Where he grew up, how he was involved in the community, and where his rise to becoming the United States last great senator began. As we go through the journey of Senator Byrd's life, we will be examining and emphasizing his main accomplishments for the great state of West Virginia as well as looking at some of the more controversial aspects of his life such as his association and participation in the infamous Ku Klux Klan and his known letters filled with not so kind remarks about African Americans in which he sent to Senator Theodore G. Bilbo of Mississippi who is notorious for his legacy of hate. The main goal of this paper and presentation is to identify the fickle man that Senator Robert C. Byrd seems to be identified as by the masses as well as showing his every lasting legacy for and admiration. Senator Byrd did wonders for the state of West Virginia and the Mountain State could never have had the expansion it had and now has without him. Thank is something worth talking about.
