Abstract
This paper examines Disney’s Mulan and how it relates to the ancient Chinese legend it is adapted from. The paper draws from its comparison that the alterations and omissions in Disney’s adaptation resulted in both a beneficial deviation from their previous fairytale fodder, as well as a Westernized plot that the company could use to ingratiate themselves to the Chinese and domestic markets alike.
