Abstract
By analyzing the memoirs of several different soldiers in the French and British armies during World War I, I will piece together the individual experience of the soldier. Focusing on three main soldiers, Marc Bloch, Henri Desagneaux, and Robert Graves, I will compare the differences between the French and British experiences in the war. Using secondary sources, I will show how these accounts align with scholarship on the individual experience during World War I.
