Abstract

My purpose of conducting this research is to show that during the time period of interest, which is the past 15 years, that most years have experienced a snow drought. The research will explore 4 different sites to provide good coverage across the state. The research shows that El Nino and La Nina don’t have a direct correlation to snowfall rates and there isn’t a general trend. Although there is no direct correlation, El Nino’s tend to produce more snowstorms for our region then La Nina’s do. Research also shows that out of the 15 years that data was collected on, 11 of them failed to reach their seasonal snowfall average. Four years with two of them influenced by an El Nino produced a surplus of snowfall for the 2010 and 2016 winter seasons. With years where there is no influence, snowfall is very minimal.
