Abstract

Non-magical human figures are represented in a discriminatory fashion in the Harry Potter series which emulates the racial inequality that was present and to a point still is present between white and black humans. This is evident in the language used toward and about non-magical individuals by the similarities to the insults used against people of color. Looking at this text through primarily distance reading technologies brings a great deal of correlations between muggles and black people to light.
