Abstract

My presentation will compare the various psychoactive plants used by shamans in Central and South America. I will explain how the different effects of these plants aid in helping the shaman heal people, both physically and mentally. I will focus primarily on firsthand accounts of the shamans and their patients and also discuss how modern day medicine is beginning to realize the benefits of using these plants.
