Abstract
Through social media, we can see a trend in body standards and the way beauty has presented itself throughout time. We have created a “beauty standard”, or a way to aesthetically see women. We can understand its effects in terms of body dysmorphia, self-esteem issues, and other problems among women. In this paper, I examine how the cosmetic industry and social media target college-age women in ways that are harmful to their self-esteem.
