Biography
My name is Kevin Overbaugh. I'm from Summersville, West Virginia and originally came to Marshall University to study Psychology. Along the way, I found a personal interest in the Spanish language and culture motivating me to pick it up as a second major. My long-term career goal is to be a bilingual child psychologist so that I may help a variety of people in the United States with a lesser chance of experiencing a language/cultural barrier that may impede my aid.

Abstract
The Spanish Golden age -which encompasses the Renaissance and Baroque periods- is a time when many artforms, especially literature, began to evolve. Encompassing new ideas and perspectives on life. This analysis discusses famous literary works from this period in history and how the ideas of the Renaissance spread and influenced the development of culture and intellect in Spain. The Italian Renaissance began in the 14th Century due to increased interaction between cultures, the emergence of humanism and Neoplatonism, and the initiation of new ideas and perspectives. Once Alfonso V of Aragon conquered the kingdom of Naples on the Italian Peninsula, it was quickly reformed into a literary and cultural center. Cultured Spaniards would travel to this area to learn the latest trends and be acquitted with scholars who were then invited back to Spain. From exposure to Italy, the ideas and themes of the Renaissance spread to Spain. Additionally, Christopher Columbus’s discovery that the world was much larger than Europeans previously believed led to Spanish expansion and growth in fortune due to natural resources and indigenous labor. Altogether fueling a radical shift in thought, language, literature, art, and perspective. Relevance pertains to understanding how Spain’s Golden age rapidly influenced the people and their culture and how this may help people today in further undergoing development, introspection and enlightenment.
