Abstract

Do carbon dioxide emissions truly cause an increase in the global average temperature? Despite the efforts that have been done to mitigate global warming by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, it appears that the global average temperature is still rising. Is this fact still true? The purpose of this research is to check and see if this is truly the case. This will be answered by using correlation through SPSS to check and see whether carbon dioxide emissions are correlated with the global average temperature. Also, if this is the case, this research will also see if the objectives of the 2015 Paris Agreement can be met at the current rate for both carbon dioxide emissions and global average temperature. This will be done by using the Trend function in Excel since this function can predict/estimate values for the future. The result show that both carbon dioxide emissions and global average temperature are correlated, but even though the objectives will be met for the 2015 Paris Agreement, it might not be the case for long proving that something needs to change soon to stop this or who knows what will happen to Earth.
