Description
The growing number of international students on INTO partner campuses is set to have a powerful impact on the wider university and may necessitate a change of approach in all aspects of university administration and teaching. One important consequence of this internationalization is that more and more university classes consist of both domestic and international students and a consequent variety of levels of English language proficiency. In this workshop, I will introduce Linguistically Responsive Instruction (LRI), an approach to teaching linguistically diverse classes. LRI involves six principles, the application of which can lead to increased success for all students regardless of linguistic proficiency, and greater feelings of satisfaction for faculty. I will advocate for university administrative support for faculty so that they can learn to apply LRI in their classes.
