In the course of researching her novels, Sharyn McCrumb has sat in Tennessee's electric chair; done laps on the track at Lowe's Motor Speedway at 180 mph with a NASCAR driver; learned to shoot an 1841 Springfield muzzle-loader; toured Moundsville, West Virginia's old prison; and given a "Mafia funeral" to a dead mouse, courtesy of teh Virginia Tech Department of Civil Engineering. Tales of her adventures in research beyond the bookshelves.
