Michaela Wells is a senior at Marshall University in the College of Liberal Arts. She lives in Kentucky and plans on pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Abstract

The research focuses on the function of myth and folklore in society, and how different people view local Appalachian lore. Topics discussed also include common themes among myths of different origins. The study will include surveys sent out to Marshall University students and interviews with local residents. The findings from this research should show who engages in folklore and what it means to them.
