Abstract
It is well known that college students are more likely to try or abuse drugs and/or alcohol. This research looks at whether Freshman in college believe they face peer pressure to participate in activities such as binge drinking and drug use. The first phase of the project involves surveying Freshman students at Marshall University to discover whether they believe they are pressured by their friends to use drugs and/or alcohol, if it is their personal choice or there is another factor that leads to the commonality of drug use and/or alcohol abuse among college students, for example the use of relatives or family members. The purpose of this research is to discover the reason behind the normalization of drugs and alcohol in college students in order to better understand how to prevent recreational use that may eventually impact students futures or turn into life long addictions.
